Carbon Foot PrintsCarbon Footprint

Power Consumption | Paper Consumption | Video: Paperless Facts | Video: Reducing Office Paper

Did you know that a typical photo copier:

  1. Uses 3.5 KW of power when busy and 65 watts on standby.
  2. Daily power consumption =  (3500 watts x 5 hours) + (65 watts x 19 hours)
    =17 500 + 1235
    =18 735 watts per day
= An Average of 780.625 watts per hour
    = 0.78 KWH
  3. A coal fired power-station creates close to 1 KG of CO2 for every KWH of energy produced, so in order to offset one day of photocopier energy it would take 0.78 units x 24 hours or 18.7 Kg in carbon offsets
  4. To calculate the annual carbon footprint of the device we could multiply the daily figure by 250, assuming the machine is switched off over holidays and weekends.

This gives us a figure of 4675Kg or 4.675 tonnes of CO2 per year.

The figures are naturally subject to variables such as make and model of machine, usage, and power source
